Taipei, Nov. 16, 2012 (CENS)--LED packager Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. has recently landed orders for its infrared (IR) LEDs from many mainland Chinese suppliers of touch-screen modules for Win 8 PCs.

Industry executives estimated IR LEDs as a percentage of Everlight’s revenue to further increase next year from current 25%.

Everlight’s spokesman, B.Y. Liu, pointed out that the company has so far this quarter landed considerable orders from touch-screen module suppliers that will likely shore up the company’s revenue for the fourth quarter to the third-quarter level. Usually, the fourth quarter is a low season for the company’s products.

Liu added that gross margin from invisible-ray LEDs such as IR LED is much heftier than that of visible-ray LEDs, and that the company has opened a business unit for touch-screen IR LEDs. He estimated the business will increase contribution to the company’s revenue in 2013.

There are many activation technologies for touch screens, including electrical resistance, capacitance, infrared and surface acoustic wave. The screens have been applied to automatic ticking system, medical instruments and point-of-sale systems. Increased applications of the screen have brought Everlight considerable business.

In the first three quarters this year, the company had after-tax net income of NT$544 million (US$18.7 million at US$1: NT$29), or NT$1.3 per diluted share, plunging 54.77% from the same period of last year.
